Our school

Our school is in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim.  About 90 boys, from 2nd class to 6th class, attend our school.  We come from both Counties Leitrim and Roscommon.  In the last few years we have been delighted to welcome pupils from many other countries and from all continents.

Read more about us and the places we come from on our Projects page.

We have 4 class teachers, a learning support teacher, language support teacher and a resource teacher.

Carrick-on-Shannon is situated in south Co. Leitrim along the banks of the River Shannon along the N4 that connects Dublin and Sligo.  It is a beautiful town, full of historic buildings.

If you wish to find out more about our town, go to our links page.

Our Crest

Our crest was designed by one of our pupils in 1999.  As some of our pupils come from Co. Leitrim and some from Co. Roscommon he felt it was only fair to use the colours of both counties  - green and yellow of Leitrim and blue and yellow of Roscommon.  The bridge over the River Shannon, with its six arches, is the link between the counties. The Celtic cross represents the Catholic ethos of our school. The book, pen and ball shows our school's dedication to learning, sports and games.

Music

Each week all classes attend music classes given by the talented visiting teacher, Mrs. Monica O'Gorman.  We have learned a wide selection of songs as well as reading music

All boys wear a grey trousers, light blue shirt and navy jumper with school crest.

A wine tie is worn for special occasions.  The uniform is available in shops locally

 Healthy Lunch Policy

Only healthy lunches are allowed in our school.  It is important to eat healthily to grow and develop.

Our lunch boxes are filled with sandwiches, fruit, yoghurts and fruit drinks only.

We now get fruit and a yoghurt drink every morning at the 'Breakfast Club'.

Aura Leisure CentreSwimming

On Tuesday mornings all classes go swimming to the Aura Leisure Centre that is about 200 metres from our school.  Three instructors give us swimming and water safety lessons.  At this stage the advanced group can swim up to 20 lengths.

Homework Club

This year a free homework club takes place in one of the classrooms every Wednesday and Thursday evening immediately after school.  Fifteen pupils are helped with their homework for an hour and a quarter by two teachers.  All pupils have found it a great help.  Little wonder there is a long waiting list to join the club.

Piggy BankThe Credit Union in our School

MCj03963240000[1]We organise a Credit Union savings scheme in our school. It encourages pupils to start saving.
The 6th class pupils help the younger boys to fill in their deposit slips. We organise it every Friday morning. The school gains nothing from this, as the money is brought straight to the local credit union across the road. We may leave our savings books in school for safe keeping. We can then take out our savings to buy something for ourselves. This savings programme is a good idea as it encourages us to save.
